Implementation

Following the adoption of Connecting Cook County, the County initiated multiple projects and plans to begin implementation of the Plan. These include further in-depth plans, such as the Cook County Freight Plan, and new initiatives, including Invest in Cook. Additional projects throughout the County are already underway to realize the Plan’s five priority areas: prioritize transit and other transportation alternatives; support the region’s role as North America’s freight capital; promote equal access to opportunities; maintain and modernize what already exists; and increase investments in transportation.

  • Invest in Cook: Invest in Cook is a competitive transportation grant program to help fund improvements on local transportation facilities. The County is seeking applications for transportation-related projects throughout Cook County as part of the initiative to build and maintain a comprehensive regional transportation network. View more information on the initiative here.
  • Cook County Freight Plan: This Plan will provide the County with a clear path toward ensuring the region’s competitiveness in manufacturing, goods movement, and logistics and preserve our position as the busiest freight hub in the nation. View Plan details and timelines here.
